Brief Description:  July 4th Holiday flight to the beach

So my wife mentioned to me last week that she would really like to go to the beach. I told her that we would check on going Monday if the weather cooperated.

Monday came and the weather looked pretty good except for early morning haze that kept the visibilites down for a while. My friend Rob allows me to fly his beautiful RV-7 he built so we had an airplane to use. The beach we love is located on the outer banks of NC called Ocracoke (W95). When the weather cleared up we launched although a little later than planned at about 0945.....0800 would have been better. Anyway there is no fuel at W95 so we went direct to Pitt Greenville Airport (KPGV) and filled up then jumped over to Ocracoke.

Ocracoke is right on the beach and you literally have to just cross the dune and you are there! It is uncrowded there due to its remote location(there are only about 800 full time residents there). After landing we got out to the beach and spent a couple hours walking and letting the waves wash over our feet.

On the way back we left about 1430 and took the scenic route up the outer banks towards Cape Hattaras and Kitty Hawk and then turned toward Richmond and back home. Time is a little over 1.5 hours to get there in the RV-7 but our excursions took a bit more time. We got pics of Hatteras Lighthouse and Wright Brothers Memorial and other fun pictures. A great day!
