Brief Description:  Skybolt Flanges on Firewall #2

Continued with the spacing for the Skybolt firewall flanges which involves part science, part art, and a little bit of sorcery! The last session I determined where I wanted to start the flanges on the left side of the firewall. I positioned four flanges the last work session.

I placed a couple more flanges on the left side of the firewall. I then turned my attention to the right side of the firewall. I measured the distance on the left side and got an accurate position for the right side to begin the tabs in order to make them symmetrical. I then began to get the right side caught up to the same place as the left.

I kept with the 3 1/2 inch spacing according to the instructions. There is no real way of knowing how the last flange will join the two sections when they meet. I got closer to the center and had marked the centerline of the firewall to have a reference.

When I finally got to the joining part of the install there was a little larger gap than there should be for the spacing by 1/2 to 3/4 inch. After doing some quick cypherin I decided to cheat the last four on the left and right another 1/16 inch to get the flanges symmetrical. It worked great!

I got all the flanges for the top firewall in position and will probably drill to cleco them in place. They won't be able to really be locked in position until the top skin can be put on.

Hmmm.....this log made total hours 2222....maybe I should get a lotto ticket today...haha.
