Brief Description:  Install Battery Tray and misc

My battery tray has a gap below it of about 1.5 inches by 4 inches when installed. I am concerned of something going under there and if a conductive metal could come out at an inopportune time and cause problems in the electrical bay. I tried several foams I had in the shop but all burned and melted easily.....something I didn't want in the electrical bay.

After doing a search I found some rubberized foam that was flame resistant. It was delevered today and before I used it I did a flame test. Yup, holding it under a Bic lighter for a bit proved the paper covering the adhesive would burn the the foam wouldn't . The foam changed color to an ashy gray but didn't burn or melt. Good for my purposes....I will use a piece to block the space below the battery tray. The foam really compresses and conforms very nicely also.

I removed the voltage regulators in order to get things installed into the electrical bay. I didn't have to because I have plenty of room to work, but there is a ground screw on the bottom that I want to attach the case grounds where I can see them well and possibly attach other wires and then install the unit again.

I installed the battery tray and wire tie down angle for the outboard portion of the tray with the adel clamps.

I then worked on the wire tie down panel. To my frustration, the panel didn't align with the tray holes when it was set in place. Two holes were off "just enough" to cause a headache. I cleared the tray holes a little more but it just wasn't working well. After messing with it far too long I determined I would make a new panel....and also use a different design that I had pondered.

Due to the clearance holes already being drilled in the baggage panel it would be hard to get the #8 holes drilled in place due to the clearance which I made ample for alignment. So I used a piece of aluminum and made a little locator that I could use to hold the nutplate centered on the clearance holes......it worked like a charm and all the nutplates were centered!
