Brief Description:  Box gymnastics and prototype panel

I have basically four remote boxes that don't go in the panel and I spent some time looking for where I wanted to build a home for them. I have the GTR 20 remote comm box, GTX45R remote transponder box, GEA 24 engine monitor, and GAD 29 AIRINC module.

That doesn't sound like a lot, but for the small space behind the RV-8 panel it provides a mild challenge. I considered placing the radio and transponder boxes in the tail section but saw no real advantage unless I absolutely have no space. Well I played around with scenarios last night and it looks like I will have places for all the boxes but to make sure I am going to make a prototype panel with the material I picked up a week or so ago and then get the boxes cut and installed and give it another look.

So I made some spacers to get the space between the panel and the baggage area where it will sit. Without spacers and the flimsyness of the panels without being riveted to the outer skins the space was an inch less approximately that what it should have been.....the spacers rectified the situation. When it comes to space every inch is needed to be sure it will actually work.

I took a panel blank and marked and cut the top profile as well as the bottom of the panel. I have to cut and bend the bottom (I don't HAVE to bend it but will for flex strength). Then I will locate and mark the locations for the boxes, buttons, switches and other items to cut the prototype.
