Brief Description:  Forward Baggage Cover Panel #1

I ordered a label maker to mark my shrink wrap for wiring. I figure it would be something I could use around the house once finished the project. So it was a good time to do some metal work on the front baggage compartment. I am making a cover that will cover the lower portion of the baggage compartment that I have now relegated to be my electrical bay. The purpose of the panel is to protect the electrical bay from having items fall into it and wreak havoc....shorting out things...starting fires....little inconveniences like that!

I found a piece of .040 aluminum sheet that would do the job. So it was the old measure-cut, measure-cut, measure-cut, file file file routine. I finally got it to fit after notching out the forward right corner and having to angle the edge along the right side of the fuselage because it tapered.

I needed support along the back edge of the panel and decided to put a bracket in the middle to support the panel. The bottom of the rear wall isn't level with the panel height...so I had to make a sort of "Z" bracket that would rivet under the rear panel and come up to the cover panel level. I put some clay and was able to put the panel in position and pressed down. I was able to measure the two impressions and get a rough dimension. Next I ran some yellow tape on the back panel below the rivet line, inserted the panel, marked the top of the panel along the rear wall tape. I then removed the panel and compared measurements of the clay and tape to get the bracket dimensions.
