Brief Description:  BIG DAY....Landing Gear Install

Today ended up being a loooonnnng building session. I have mentioned Rob before. He is one of our EAA chapter tech advisors and an all around heck of a great guy. Rob does more than give advise....he gets his hands dirty and gets in the thick of it with you!!! Anyway, he had mentioned a week ago coming over and helping me get the plane on it's legs. So we set up to do the job a little later on Saturday afternoon.

I got going earlier in the day to get the fuse cleaned out. I removed boards and other misc stuff in order to get the fuse flipped. I finally got it all removed and vacuumed out the inside of all chips and items that could get in eyes or fall when the fuse goes inverted.

I also got all the parts together and prepped for installing the gear. I decided to just go with Vans standard steel gear and spend the aluminum gear upgrade money on other items instead.

Well....we installed the gear as per the manual. What the manual didn't tell you is it can be a royal pain to have to take out structural screws to get the bolt in position....at least in my case. I also decided to buy some bolt retainers so I could put the bolts in through the top and the nuts on the bottom so they can be torqued a lot easier than trying to go through the gear towers.

It was a long night....I could have NEVER accomplished it with Rob's help and tenacity!!! Thanks a million Rob!!!
