Brief Description:  Rear Skirt Bow (cont)

I pondered how I was going to make the notch portion of the rear canopy bow. I have read several logs and there is no two ways alike of doing it. I had covered the rail with packing tape which is the best mold release there is!

I pondered just using the packing tape that I used to enclose the rail, to just let the fiberglass flow over the taped rail and pop it off after it cures. I was just too afraid that the fiberglass would push the tape into the canopy rail and after it cured it would clamp onto the rail. If you ever worked with fiberglass you know how strong and hard this product is! I abandoned the idea.

I chose instead to cut some .015 aluminum sheet and made a "cover" to go over the rail in that area. I cut the side and top pieces of the sheet to fit the rail pretty perfectly. I used packing tape to attach the cover to the rail. Prior to putting the pieces on I had some 1/4 inch keyway stock and I put it into the canopy rail slots and used double sided sticky tape to attach them. I did the same with the top piece. After it was taped in position I put packing tape over the whole cover piece to make sure everything would stay in place and no fglass would stick to the area.
