Brief Description:  Prepping and Sika Bonding #3

I continued prepping for the canopy bonding. As it is in many things the preparation takes longer than the actual process. This is definitely the case in bonding the canopy.

I made the rubber spacers for the frame that replaced the large spacers that I used while fitting the canopy. I made the spacers about 1/4 inch square or less. I used 1300L to glue them to the frame. Unfortunately it did not hold them as well as I thought it would. I abandoned that process and used my trusty double sided tape that holds real well. That seemed to work a lot better.

After setting the spacers, I placed the canopy back on the frame. I checked the fit. It had changed a little bit....I decided to place a little more clearance by the left side frame ribs because the canopy was almost touching the frame. So using the dremmel I cut more clearance in the marked areas after removing the canopy once again. After sanding and polishing the new modifications I placed the canopy back on the frame once again....everything looked great!

With everything clamped up in place, I used orange electrical tape to eyeball the line for the Sika finish line for the inside. You lay the tape on the outside eyeballing the frame and lay the tape where you like it to be. Then you take the tape and lay it on the inside of the canopy using the tape you laid on the outside to guide you.....it's really the best way to make the inside line and worked very well.....thanks Jim! I love using a good quality electrical tape. It adheres to the canopy great and using colors gives contrast for laying it down.

After this work session, most of the tape has been placed on the canopy and frame. I still need to cover some "bare" canopy places where the protective coating was removed....getting closer to Sika go time!!!
