Brief Description:  Cutting and Fitting the Canopy Part 5

Tonight i just continued to finish the edges of the windscreen since it is fitted to finished dimensions at least for the time being. After cutting the plexi I use the electric belt sander with either 80 or 120 grit belts to even everything out.

After getting everything good with the belt sander I used a hand sanding block with 220 grit sandpaper followed up by 320 grit sandpaper. I may go over it one more time with 400 grit later.

When I sand I notice that using the cut off wheel really melts a sharp edge on the plexi. I really felt the edges well to make sure the edge was totally gone. It's easy to quickly feel the edges sliding them parallel to the edges and consider them done....but if you feel perpendicular to the edge you can detect an edge that will be noticable. As I have been finishing the edges of the plexi I try to shoot for a totally rounded edge on the plexi. If the plexi is radiused rather than a flat surface with two edges sanded I am assuming that the radius edges will be far less prone to cracking....that's my thought....so my finish sanding seeks to get the edges as radiused as possible.
