Brief Description:  ELT Bracket #3

This process takes a lot longer in setting up than it does in actually drilling the location. I located the angles that would hold the mount to the longerons. I never want the parts like these angles that are mounted on the longerons to rub against the aircraft skin because vibration and resonance of the aircraft can cause the installed angles to rub or fray against the skin and wear away at it eventually producing a crack.

I used two shims made out of some .060 aluminum to stick behind the angles and then slid them against the shims and drilled the holes. It worked out great. After getting the angles drilled to the longerons, I transferred the holes I had already drilled in the plate to the angles after getting the plate in place and held I drilled the locations.

Though not a "black box" that you hear about in larger airplanes....I decided to paint the mounting panel a bright color.....the ELT can be used remotely if for some strange reason it didn't activate or can be turned off if a person deemed due to bad weather or nightfall it could help it be a bit more visible and located and turned off to conserve the battery until better conditions prevail.

Probably a bit unnecessary....but I did it anyway.
