Brief Description:  Paint various panels

Well my first attempt at painting the topcoat on some panels. I'll be the first to admit that I have about no experience painting with a HVLP spray gun. I painted the primer with the gun but primer really isn't that hard to shoot onto parts.

So I watched the process videos a couple times to really get a handle on what I needed to do. I gave it three fog coats in order to build the color saturation. Then the forth coat is the final coat that puts the finishing touch on the topcoat. Each coat goes on with about a ten minute or so wait in between to allow it to tack up.

The process seemed to go along well and by the time I painted all the panels the first ones were at their place of needing the next coat.

Well all the coats were done and I left to go clean the gun. Unfortunately my guesstimate was off and I ended up throwing away about 3 or so ounces of paint.....which isn't cheap! ha

Well I allowed the paint to cure. One thing they say is put the last coat on and just walk away and let the paint do its process. Well unfortunately, the paint came out with a smooth matte finish...spell that "fine orange peel". Long story short I called the company to get some advise and he said after we spoke about it for some time...he felt that the low quality gun I was using along with the 1.4 spray nozzle would seem to be the culprit. So it really doesn't look bad...but don't know if I am going to keep it that way....will think if I feel like sanding and re-painting!

You can see in the photos that I put the panels in reflective light in photo 1 is florescent light and photo 2 is the sun. Photo 3 was taken without trying to get the sun glare in the photo. So they don't look too bad unless you get a bright reflective light involved.

We will ponder.......
