Brief Description: Modify Left Elevator Horn Per Vans
Vans responded pretty quickly to my request. The answer was short and sweet...."grind the horn until you have sufficient clearance". So this session I ground the horn with my Dremmel tool and a sanding barrel. It was a course sanding barrel and it worked well to remove the material. After grinding and checking a number of times I was happy with the results. When I remove the elevators again I will simply do a little finish work to blend everything in with a file.
The interesting thing is that Vans has changed the design of the horns so that there is no longer a radius on the bottom back corner but an angle just like the one I had to cut on the horn....so there is a reason they changed it! I know this because my buddy Jim took a pic of his horns and they look like my ground one with an angle....you can see the difference in pic #3 below.
