I placed the VA-101 End Caps on the F-841 rod and drilled. Vans suggest cutting a piece of paper so the two ends touch when you wrap it aroud the tube. Rather than try to wrap and mark a piece of paper, I just used the ole math formula ( D X 3.1416 ) and used that value to cut out a piece of paper.....worked perfect! Then you take the paper and fold it three times....then wrap it around the tube and mark each of the eight creases....easy peezy.
I deburred the tube and ends for the Elev Control Rod. Instructions call for assembly of the ends onto the tube....then pouring primer down and shaking it around till it coats the interior of the tube. The say that if you prime prior to putting the caps on then you may have difficulty getting the end caps on. Well....I decided to tape the inside of the ends to keep primer off and then spray the tube to be sure I had good coverage inside. I put it again in the lathe and got it spinning while spraying from both ends....I got excellent coverage!! Prior to putting the ends on I removed the tape and sprayed primer in the ends and put the caps in while it was wet. It all worked out beautifully.
