Brief Description:  HS Front Spar Cont

Continuing on with progress on the Horizontal Stab to put it back together from taking it apart to perform the service bulletin.

I dimpled the four rivet holes on the HS-702 Spar. Next I had to make some cuts on the HS-0006 nose ribs. Instructions called for cutting a segment of the rear attachment of the rib to give clearance to the HS-814 reinforcement angle. I was able to mark the part and using a dremmel tool cut and form the notch without too much trouble.

In reality, I had a little bit of trouble figuring out what they wanted to remove from the rib. I put my magnifying goggles on and then I saw it. The print I recieved from Vans for some reason was printed on the "light" side. I couldn't dee the hatch marks that depict removing the material. I also notice it difficult to read some dimesion lines. Anyway got it figured out.

I also had a visitor and helper for this work session. A gentleman I met who belongs to my EAA Chapter 186, is an airline captain that is considering building an RV. He came over after we tried to coordinate schedules in the past few weeks, and lent a hand. Steve is very sharp and started picking up on the prints and processes. He was a great help while figuring out the rib notches on the nose rib. He has offered his assistance in the future....which I will no doubt be calling upon!

It never ceases to amaze me of the great people that make up the aviation community!
