Assembled E-713 to E-701 with four rivets that are inboard and cannot be installed after the rest of the counterweight assembly is installed. This worked very nicely. By installing the small rivets on E713 and E701 it allows the four rivets to be installed....avoiding the alternative of having to install blind rivets (which makes for a better overall finish.
Next I placed RTV on the stiffners at the trailing edge.....CAUTION: Vans instructions leave out this step (they put it in on the rudder....but not the left and right elevators!!) I wrote the RTV step in the book......IN RED INK!.
With E713 tacked onto to E701 I worked the right elevator skeleton into E701 skin so that it would fit in the way it was suppose to. Then I clecoed all the skeleton and riveted the entire elevator. I installed E714 lead counterweight and used a file to contour the weight as per instructions. Next I installed the bolts, torqued them and placed torque paint on the bolts.
