Everytime I think I can see an end to f/w forward stuff, I find “one more thing” to do! Tonight it was the sniffle valve. Originally I had decided I would not install one—a number of builders did not—but after reading the whys and what fors, I went ahead with the install. On the fuel injected engine, if you get it flooded, the fuel may pool in the lower induction area. If you have a backfire while starting, you could end up with a fire in the induction chamber—at least that is what I read. Well, I just don’t want to chance it. The sniffle valve closes when the engine is running and opens upon shutdown. Excess fuel is supposed to drain out the valve and exit near the end of the exhaust pipes. On the IO360 that Vans sells, the outlet for the valve is too close to the exhaust, so I first installed a 45 degree elbow and then the valve (not my idea—saw it on other builder’s sites). I made a bend in the supplied aluminum tube and connected the tube to the valve with some hose and clamps. I slipped on some fire sleeve where the tube is close to the exhaust. I still need to secure the aft end with an adel clamp.
