Brief Description:  Lower cowling hinges, GPS antenna mount

Pics 2 of 3-- Originally I had followed the plans to use hinges for attachment at the bottom of the lower cowl. I could not find a way to get the hinge pin in and out of the hinges—it seemed directly in line with the exhaust pipe. Also, several builders have report breakage of the hinges in this area. There are several other methods to attach the bottom of the cowl—one is to use camlocks, another is to use screws and nutplates. I am going to use nutplates—don’t want to wait on the camlocks—besides they are a bit pricey. So, I drilled out the 6 rivets per side where I previously riveted the hinge to the fuse/firewall, and filled the holes in the cowling with flox. Laying under the fuse and drilling overhead was a real treat! I cut two pieces of .063 to rivet to the firewall/lower skin. These will also be used for the nutplates to secure the bottom of the lower cowl.
