Brief Description:  Eyeballs-3

Good old Harbor Freight—let me down one more time—no knockout punch—maybe next Monday. Arrrg! Tonight I mounted one of the eyeballs to a piece of plywood which I had clamped to the drill press table. Aligned the hole in the center of the ball with a 1/8” bit. Began drilling the aluminum ball up in 1/64” increments. The cable diameter is about .335”. Some logs indicate the builders drilled the balls to .328”, which I did, but the clamp was so tight that I couldn’t get the 2 halves of the mount together. I finally ended up drilling the ball to .343”. Then I test fit on the cable-the fit is very snug. I added the mounting clamp—no way to move the cable after it is clamped. It looks like the hole in the center of the ball is slightly off center—probably why I had to drill up an additional 1/64” to make it fit—have to do better on drilling the next ball. However, I plan to wait until I can beg, borrow or steal a knockout punch. If the 3 balls won’t fit the firewall, I have a couple I can return.
