Brief Description: Fit U807 wheel pant attach brackets
Checked the toe in/toe out alignment one more time—still looks good. So, I dropped the tail back down and set the fuse false spars back on sawhorses. I trial fit the U807 wheel pant attach brackets. The upper edge did not lay flat due to the curve in the airfoiled Grove gear. I marked the area of interference and removed some material with my belt sander. Checked fit—needs more grinding. I went thru this process more times than I care to count. Finally got a fit that lets the bracket lay flat. I used the first bracket as a template to mark where and how much to remove on the second bracket. This time I used a cutoff wheel in the dremel, followed by a few passes on the scotchbrite wheel. I assembled the bracket, axel and brake caliper. Fit looks good, except I can’t slide the brake caliper off of the mount—it contacts the lower side of the attach bracket. I marked the area, removed everything and cut a relief in the bracket. Installed everything again—now the caliper can be removed. Next I laid out the location of the nutplates for attaching the wheel pants. Center punched and drilled holes to #19, then used a nutplate jig to drill holes for the nutplate attach rivets. C/S the holes—need to clean up the bracket and shoot some primer.
