Had a productive session tonight. Drilled the last 3 holes for the inboard attach bracket. Holes were easier to drill that the outboard brackets—possibly because they were slightly smaller, but probably because it was much easier to drill vertically than at an angle. Next, I drilled the ¼” holes thru the outboard wear plates—used a 3/8” drill for these holes—easier to manage than “Big Berta”. I spent much of my time crawling under the fuselage and taping a piece of .040 plate to the weldments to protect them when the bit came thru. Still have 4 more holes to drill thru from inside the fuselage for the ¼” bolts that secure the inboard wear plates.
Drilling left inboard bracket-tape on bit to gauge depth
