Brief Description: Drilled outboard bracket-right side
Moved to the right gear leg. Another hour, two more holes—maybe I need a faster drill motor! Followed pretty much the same procedure as on the left leg. One thing that I did differently is to drill the holes up using 6 progressively larger bits. The big ½” drill did not grab as it bit into the steel weldments using this method. Got a great tip from fellow builder Bill Crissinger—cut a piece of thin masonite board and tape it against the side of the weldments. This prevented gouging the sides when the drill breaks thru. Gouges ended up in the masonite instead of gear weldments. After drilling and reaming the holes, I tightened up the inboard 7/16” bolt in preparation of drilling the inboard brackets.
