Brief Description:  Outside skirt finishing-4, canopy latch-5

This log cover two days. I lightly sanded the lip on both skirts—looks good enough to me (until I look at it again and decide it's not perfect). I sanded the last 8” of the upper lip, left side toward the aft end. Mixed up some resin and applied with a credit card. As soon as the resin became tacky on the skirt, I applied another coat. Next day, I sanded down this area, then cleaned with MEK and shot on a coat of sanding primer. After the primer was dry, I lightly sanded—calling it good. Overall, the skirts look pretty good—Except—the areas around the rivet heads can be seen if looking at the proper angle. Also, can feel a slight depression around each rivet. I countersunk the rivets slightly below the surface and filled in with micro. Still, they are very slightly evident. Not sure just what method to take care of the problem. So, as a test, I sanded the area over one down tube. I cut a strip of .003” thick glass tape, wet it with resin and applied over the area. Then I applied a strip of peel ply over the tape. Tomorrow I’ll sand and possibly add some micro or SuperFil. If this takes care of the problem, I’ll use the same process on all of the remaining rivets. Also tonight, I measured (about a dozen times) and marked a pilot hole for the outside latch. Clamped the latch in my vice and drilled a #41 pilot hole.
