Took off work this afternoon and spent most of it in the shop. I applied resin/flox/micro along the edges of both skirts. Also built up a shim under the 3 down ribs of the canopy frame-there was a slight gap there and when clecoed it pulled the lower edge of the skirt away from the fuse. After everything dried, I removed the skirts and cleaned up the edges. Clecoed them back and used a .025” feeler gauge to check gaps—had several, which I marked. Removed the skirts and went thru the same process on the areas that still had gaps. You know the routine, build it up, sand most of it off and repeat. Went thru this at least 3 times until the skirts fit pretty well. I still have a gap (about 6” long) in the same spot on each side that needs more liquid shim. In looking down the side, it appears there is a slight wave in the skirt in the area where the frame bends and starts up toward the back. I will add more filler in these areas and sand down the outside of the skirt to remove the wave. Don’t know what caused this wave—maybe the way I bent the frame or maybe how I drilled the holes to attach the skirts.
Area between the marks needs more shim
Goop drying
Made a fillet for down tubes so lower skirt not pulled away from fuse
