Brief Description:  Canopy prep for glue-1

Happy 4th of July! Started the day by removing the canopy from the frame. Didn’t have a spare table so I draped a quilt over the turtle deck and set the canopy over it. I removed all of the spacers and tape from the frame and wiped off all of the plexi dust. I marked a center line top and bottom on the side tubes and front and back of the front bow. I ran a line of black tape along the inside of the center lines—this took two separate passes—one on top and one on bottom. Would have been real simple if the tape had been wide enough to reach from center to center. Next I used blue painters tape to cover all of the down tubes and the bottom tubes. Used a maroon pad to scuff the exposed frame. Hmm, scuffing also removed my center line—will have to use Mike Elliott;s TLAR method for the second tape line which will overlap the first line of tape. TLAR-that looks about right. The first tape line will be used for a cosmetic coat, while the second line is the actual bonding line. For the second taping, I used orange electrical tape in order to contrast with the black Sika. I overlapped the first tape line by approx. 1/16” inch. While I had access to the frame, I also drilled holes to #40 near the bottom of the front bow where the roller assembly fits into the frame. I will final drill these holes in assembly after the canopy has been bonded. Next I set the frame back onto the fuse and moved the canopy to the work table. I trimmed away approx. 2” of the vinyl on the inside of the canopy. Next up—tape the inside of the canopy and make one final sanding.
