Yesterday and today I worked on the baggage door latches—loads of fun. The manual has you draw a center line on the back of the block, tape it to the bulkhead or firewall and line up the centerline looking thru the two #30 holes. Yeah right—but that doesn’t ensure that the latch pin will line up with the hole in the block. There is a bit of trial and error to get the blocks, pins and mounting holes to line up, but finally it happened. Then, I pulled the door down real tight with duct tape and drilled thru the bulkhead into the latch block about 1/8”. Removed the block and drilled it to #30 on the drill press. Put everything back together—fit will work. Removed the block, final drilled #19 and drilled the holes in the bulkhead to #19. I countersunk the block for #8 flush screws and re-assembled. Repeat for the firewall side. The door has to be pulled down pretty tight to get the pins to latch—I’ll wait and see later if it loosens up a bit. The door fit is acceptable—not perfect, but plenty good. Movin on.
