Brief Description:  Misc Items

Several miscellenous items today. I re-visited the manual aileron trim. When I first installed the trim system, I reamed the nylon block so that the slide bar wouldn’t fit so tight—mistake, should have left alone. Well, that made the trim too loose, so that it followed the left and right movement of the stick. Removed the nylon block and opened the lateral cut with a hacksaw blade to give a bit more clamping pressure. That seemed to work, now, I found that the adel clamps would let the Bowden cable slide, thus not giving full travel of the trim. Couldn’t use smaller clamps—smaller would not fit around the cable. I took some safety wire and wound it around the cable where the clamps would be installed. The wire nested in the grooves of the cable housing, yet stuck up enough to allow the adel clamps to get a positive grip. Reinstalled and checked operation—seems to work good enough for me. Removed the sticks, control housing and the F840 pushrod. I set the length of the pushrod per plans and securely tightened the jam nuts—also insured that more than half the threads were inside the rod ends. Touched up with primer, reinstalled and connected to the elevator bell crank. I was planning to wait on the pitch servo until much later in the build. However, after installing the bellcrank and pushrod, I certainly intend to acquire the pitch servo and install it before riveting on the aft deck. I know others have installed this after the deck was on, but sure looks to be a challenge. Next I cleaned and primered the aft control mount and the NACA fuselage vent. As for the control column and sticks, I had a wee bit of play in them that I wanted to remove. Will check further and if need be, I will order more bushings and start again.
