Brief Description:  Avionics Access Door-5

Today I discovered a minor issue with the avionics access door. After I match drilled the doubler to the F866B bulkhead, I noticed on the bulkhead that a cleco was sticking partially thru a #30 hole which was prepunched at the factory. The F873G baggage door hinge support runs between the firewall and the bulkhead. I had marked these two holes so as not to put a nutplate or rivet hole thru them. Well, there is also an identical set of holes 4 or 5 inches to the right of the F873G support. These holes are not used on the RV-8. Possible the F866B bulkhead is used on another model that uses the additional holes. When I laid out the holes in the doubler, I completely forgot about these additional holes. The hole I match drilled thru the bulkhead came out on the edge of one of these prepunched holes. No way I could fill the hole with a rivet, so I moved to each side of the holes and added another rivet. The doubler will have an extra #41 hole and the bulkhead will have its two #30 holes plus a #41 hole in the edge of one of these holes. After getting past this hick-up, I match drilled the doubler and bulkhead to 1/8” and then match reamed to #30. Took everything apart and deburred all holes. Scuffed up the doubler, hinge and hinge spacer. Dimpled the doubler and the bulkhead using the pneumatic squeezer. Next up is to drill door and hinge up to #30, prime everything and begin riveting.
