Too cold to prime the cockpit interior this weekend—high today was 24 with 3 inches of snow. So, I started on an avionics access door. Lots of builders have modified the bulkhead between the instrument panel and the firewall. I followed Buck Wyndham’s site (thanks Buck!) for this mod. I cut a piece of .040 sheet for the door and then cut a piece of P-3 hinge. Also cut a piece of .040 .5” wide so that the hinge will fit flat on the back of the bulkhead. Cutting a ½” wide strip from .040 was real fun-not! The strip curled up and became rather wavy. I straightened it out and edge finished on the scotchbrite wheel. Still has some waves, but I think it will straighten out when it is all riveted together. Next up is to make the doubler for the opposite side of the door.
Made poster board template, then cut the door from .040
