Picked up a couple of 48” levels and a digital laser level today. Leveled the fuse for pitch and roll—worked out great. However, before I mount the HS, I have an issue to deal with on the VS. My QB fuse came with the F812 bulkhead and the WD409 already drilled to ¼”. This creates a problem in drilling the VS spar to the bulkhead and tail spring mount. Inside the fuse, there is a slight gap between the F812 and the WD409. Also, the predrilled holes don’t exactly line up without pulling the mount to the right just a bit. There are 2 holes in the F812 for keeper rivets, but no matching holes in the WD409. I plan to use a drill bushing and drill the VS to 1/8” from the inside, then remove the VS and final drill to ¼”. To insure alignment of the 3 holes in the F812 and WD409, I bolted the 2 parts together—this removed the gap and the aligned the holes. Using the keeper rivet holes, I match drilled the 2 parts to 1/8” then reamed to #30. Next session I will c/s for a couple of flush rivets and drive them. This should keep the holes in alignment for back drilling using a drill bushing. Wanted to get this done prior to mounting the HS while a had some working room.
