Brief Description:  L Wing Skin Riveting-3

My son, Darren, helped me finish up the rear spar in the second bay as well as the rivets near the rear spar on three of the ribs. Darren adapted quickly to the gun and did a good job. Had one rivet on the rear spar that was clubbed, so we drilled it out and started again. I fattened up a rivet using the pneumatic squeezer. I drilled a #41 hole in a popsicle stick to hold the rivet while lightly squeezing. I used this method to keep fingers intact. Got the second rivet set, but the bar slipped on the last hit and left a nice ding in the skin. Not sure what to do with it—maybe nothing. At least it is on the bottom side, so it will be harder to spot. To date I’ve got 108 total rivets set, 3 drilled and reset and several dings. First two bays, 3 ribs and the skin overlap are done. Well almost—have 5 rivets near the front spar to set—these can be reached with the squeezer. Rather tired of the bucking bar anyway—shoulders from reaching the rear spar feel like jello.—2 hrs.
