Brief Description:  Wing Riveting Sequence

No pics tonight-just cleaned up the shop a bit. I didn’t get any pictures during the skin riveting process—we hardly stopped for a break. However, this was my riveting sequence. I clecoed the entire skin to the wing so that I could be sure everything was properly lined up. I then wrote the size of rivets for various locations on the skin with a marker—sizes ranged from AN426AD3-3.5, -4, and -4.5. I removed the clecoes from the first two ribs, the skin overlap and front spar between the first two ribs. I pulled the skin back slightly and riveted the rear spar between the first two ribs. Then I re-inserted the clecoes and riveted the 1st and 2nd rib, front spar and skin overlap joint. At this point my riveting partner showed and things moved quite rapidly. We reached thru the inspection hole to rivet the rear spar between the 2nd and 3rd ribs. Then the 3rd rib was done as well as the front spar between the 2nd and 3rd ribs. At this point, I felt that the skin was secure enough that it could not creep, so all clecoes were removed and the skin was rolled back to rivet the rear spar between the 3rd and 4th ribs, then down the 4th rib and finally the rear spar between the 3rd and 4th ribs. This sequence was followed for the remaining skin to rib/spar attachments. This riveting sequence seemed to work well. The skin between each rib is very tight with no “oil-canning” whatsoever.
