Brief Description: L. hinge pin retainer, start R flap install
Worked on hinge pin retainer clip for left flap. I used a piece of coat hanger to get an approximate bend for the hinge pin to nest against the flap brace, then bent the pin. Cut a couple of eyes from a hinge piece and drilled a #40 hole thru the center. Next I slipped the eyes over the ends of the hinge pins and drilled thru the holes into the flap brace. Still need to rivet in a nutplate to complete the pin retainer. Started on the right flap install. Drilled two holes 1/3 of the distance from each end of the skin for NAS “keeper” rivets. Put a small c/s on the back of the brace so that the “keeper” rivets will sit flush when the hinge is installed. Dimpled the outermost hole on each end of the skin, and put a c/s in the flap brace to match. Clecoed the brace to the rear spar from the front side of the spar in as many locations as I could reach, then set 2 soft aluminum pop rivets thru the flap brace and the rear spar. I very lightly squeezed the “keeper” rivets to stabilize the flap brace.
