Brief Description:  R. Wing Aileron Bracket-Finished

Finished riveting the outboard aileron bracket. Shot and bucked 4 rivets that go thru the face of the rear spar, and shot 2 that go thru the rib. Was able to use the squeezer on the other 3 by putting the longeron yoke thru the lightening hole of the rib. Then I used the squeezer on the only flush rivet at the top (actually bottom-wing is upside down) of the bracket. Drats! Ended up with a shop head just under spec for height. Debated whether to leave well enough alone or attempt to drill it out and try again. Paced around the shop telling myself it was good enough, but finally decided I just couldn’t leave it as is. I used a center punch to get a good dimple dead on in the center. Then I used a 12” long #40 drill to drill the head, followed by a 12” long #30 drill. Was able to pop the head off and drive the rivet out with a drift punch. Whew—disaster averted! Grabbed another rivet and carefully “fattened” it up with the squeezer for a really tight fit in the hole. Squeezed it and all is good again.
