Brief Description:  Bottom rudder cap-13

Last night I added some micro to the nose of the cap where I had previously laid up a couple of layers of glass on the inside of the cap. This AM I sanded the nose and identified several pin holes. Tonight I mixed up some resin and used one of Nancy’s credit cards to work the resin into the pin holes. I plan to use an AeroLED Suntail for the strobe/tail light. The installation calls for the mount (mounting ring) to be grounded. I’ve seen various methods of grounding the ring, but I used a different approach. I selected one of the mounting holes and machine countersunk the existing c/s slightly deeper, then drilled the ring and corresponding hole in the cap to a #28. This will accommodate an AN507-6 screw to be used in place of one of the pop rivets. I will add a ring terminal bent at 90 degrees on the inside to attach to the ground wire I had installed to the rib brace. I mixed up some micro and spread it across the surface at the rear of the cap. I attached the mounting ring with the supplied pop rivets—except for the hole that will receive a screw. I need to make some wire connections and then I’ll be ready to rivet the bottom cap to the rudder.
