Brief Description:  R. Elevator & HS Tips-1

I’m tired of the fill and sand routine, so tonight I started fitting the tips on the right end of the elevator/HS. The rib flange of the elevator is about .5” from the edge, so the flange of the fiberglass tip has to be cut down a bit. I cut a notch for the lead weight, then used the band sander to remove the edge down to the .5” mark. Got the tip to fit after some sanding adjustments, then match drilled it to the elevator. I cut the HS tip so that I had a 1/8”+ clearance with the elevator tip. On the left end, I fit the HS tip first, then the elevator tip. This left a bunch of sanding to get to the 1/8” gap. My hopes are that by fitting the elevator tip first and getting the required clearance, I can avoid a bunch of sanding. Laid out and marked holes for the HS tip, center punched them and used the Whitney punch for the holes. Nice thing about the punch is it makes perfect holes—no burrs left over to clean up.
