Brief Description:  HS Tips-3

Tonight I sanded on the rudder tip—again, some more. Just about got it ready for another round of dry micro. The top is getting close to matching the height of the VS tip. I clamped the HS tip to the HS and match drilled the holes in the tips. Next, I clamped some backing strips into the left HS tip and used my Whitney punch to duplicate the holes in the tip. Cleaned up the strips and shot some primer on the side that will be exposed inside the tip. After the primer dried, I scuffed up the other side of the strips, mixed up some T88 epoxy and glued the strips inside the tip—clamped it together. I tried the heat gun on a piece of the tip that I had cut off, but the heat made the glass separate from the gel coat. Gave up on the heat idea—I’ll cut another foam wedge to open up the tip to the desired shape. This foam piece will fit near the center of the tip. I’ll lay up some glass to make the new shape permanent.
