Last night I mixed up some resin, hardner and mico filler. Covered the end of the VS tip and also spread some of the goo along the joint of the rudder and tip. I also added some filler to the top front of the tip. It sits a bit lower than the VS tip—want to get a smoother transition here. Should have mixed it a bit thicker—it wanted to sag after about 20 minutes. While working on the rudder, the mixture on VS tip had run over the side. I propped up the VS tip, cleaned up the excess and applied a bit more filler. Back to the rudder—cleaned up some of the runs. This is so much fun! NOT! Finally it all got stiff enough to quit running—left it over overnight to cure. Early this AM it was still just a little soft, so while waiting, I cut out some strips to use as backing for the elevator and HS tips. Later today, everything was cured, so I sanded on the rudder tip. As one builder’s log said—dig a hole and fill it back in. I did get it pretty much smoothed out—will mix up another batch—make it much thicker this time-and coat the rudder/tip joint area on more time. The VS tip looks good—has a few tiny pin holes—may light sand and apply some more filler or just finish with Rage body filler—need to think more about this.
