Brief Description:  Final wing bolt install

My plan for the day was to get the wing bolts installed, torqued and finished. Well, got to the hangar and dang, I forgot the torque wrench—at least I brought the bolts which had been in the freezer for a week! I began the bolt install on the right wing. I used a cotton q-tip which I dipped in a small cup of motor oil to swab the inside of the top outboard big bolt hole. I put one washer under the bolt head, coated the bolt with motor oil and drove it in with a rubber mallet. This seemed pretty easy—the bolt fits tight enough that I could pull the temp pin with my fingers. So, I did the same thing for the lower inboard big bolt. It was a bit harder to hit square with the rubber mallet, but got it done. I added the upper small bolts and then the remaining upper large bolt. Then, I installed the remaining lower big bolt, followed by the inboard small bolt. The most difficult bolt was the lower outboard small bolt—very hard to hit square with the rubber mallet, so it was very slow going. Next, I added 2 washers and nuts to all bolts and snugged them up. Then, I installed the 2 bolts with washers that go into nutplates. All of the bolts/nuts on the right side are now ready to be torqued. I did a repeat of the above for the left side, although the first upper and lower big bolts were much harder to drive—maybe they had warmed and fit tighter than the chilled bolts on the right side—dunno. After these 2 bolts were in, I snugged them up and the remaining bolts went in easier. Feels good to have all the bolts installed—tomorrow I’ll finish up by torquing all of the nuts.
