Brief Description: Still filling & sanding cowlings
Nothing real exciting here-mostly sand and epoxy for the last several days. I’ve sanded and re-applied resin with a small amount of micro to the upper and lower cowling with a sanding between each coat. Early this morning, I mixed up and applied micro three batches to the upper and portions of the lower cowl. Problem is with the temps—it gels before I can get about 2/3rds of it applied—seems like I’m wasting a good amount of the mix. The upper cowling has had two coats of resin/micro while the lower has had 1 and ½. The ½ is due to not being able to cover the entire cowling with a single batch of epoxy—still have about 1/3 of the cowl that needs another coat. I spread each coat with a credit card used as a squeegee. After the first coat, I sanded with #80 grit and after the second coat I used a #120 grit. The upper seemed pretty smooth at this point, so I shot some sanding primer to see how much more attention it will require. I will need a couple more cans of sanding primer—the upper cowl alone took almost one full can. Tomorrow I can evaluate to see which areas will need additional work.
