Brief Description:  Rivet p3 hinges to fiberglass tips-2

More hinge riveting today. I followed the same procedure for the top hinge of the right tip as in the previous post. One thing I did not mention—I used some #60 grit paper on the side of the hinge that gets glassed & riveted to the tip. This should ensure a good bond. After the right tip, top portion, I set it aside to cure. Then I sanded the mating surfaces of the left tip—upper and lower. I also sanded an area which will get some glass and tape to help secure the VOR antenna. I mixed some flox with resin and applied to the upper surface of the tip, clecoed the hinge in place and began riveting. As before, I put a dab of goop in each hole before the rivet was inserted and squeezed. The clean up seems to take as long as the riveting. The area between each eyelet on the hinge must be cleaned of any resin or the two hinges may not mate properly. I used a small blade screwdriver to remove the excess resin—very time consuming, but it’s done. One more hinge, then on to Nav/Strobe lights.
