Brief Description: Re-drilled R tip, split the trailing edge
|
|
I installed the right wing tip, clecoed one side and used tape to secure the other side. The trailing edge is in alignment with the aileron. I match drilled at the aft end, center and the nose of the wing tip. I noticed as I drilled and clecoed the nose end the tip shifted slightly—the tape just can’t pull the tip as tight as a cleco. After all holes drilled, the alignment with the aileron is still off—not the ½” like before, but about 3/16”—but still noticeable. Also, the tip was about a ¼” longer than the aileron. I sanded the tip to get the height adjustment in line, and because it took about a ¼”, the trailing edge is very very thin. Still the alignment is off, so I sanded a bit more and split the flap for about 4”. Now, I can pull the trailing edge into alignment with the aileron. In hind sight, I wish I had left the original holes as they were and split the tip—since it ended up that way in the end. Next, I’ll figure a way to keep things aligned, then add some glass cloth and resin to the inside of the tip.
