Brief Description:  Installed the prop!

I started off by marking the centerline of the backing plate so that it can be drilled later for screws and nutplate rivets. I attached some soft tie down straps around the root of the blades and attached to adjustable straps which I hooked to my hoist. Before the prop goes on, there is a 2” steel plug which seals the cavity on the front of the crankshaft. I sharpened a 12” drift punch to a point and whacked with a 3 pound hammer until it punched a hole in the plug, then I gently pried it out and cleaned up the sealing residue with MEK. I moved the prop into position and removed the red plastic sealing plug from the back of the prop hub--used some of the oil in the cavity to lube the o-ring on the prop hub. I slid on the alternator belt and flywheel then began a slow process of getting the prop into position so that the bolts would line up with the crankshaft holes. I order to keep the prop level, I needed to turn the crankshaft about 20 degrees. I removed the 4 dehydrator plugs just to be sure everything would turn freely. After a bit of trial & error, I got the bolts aligned and started. I tightened up the bolts finger tight, then wrenched them snug. Removed the hoist and slings and thought to myself—This Prop is going to take me places! I clamped on the spinner and called it a successful day
