Brief Description:  Fuel tank calibration-1

I stopped by the little airport on the way to the big airport. Municipal has cheapest gas in the area. I filled up four 5 gallon cans with 100LL and went to the hangar—I already had a 2.5 gallon can at the hangar left over from running the engine. I got the plane leveled with the tail high in the air. I read on VAF where some builder had put 2 gallons in the tank, then started the calibration. I tried this on the right side, but didn’t like the end result. Then, I drained the fuel back into the gas cans. Tomorrow, I’ll re-do the right tank calibration. On the left tank, I followed Dynon’s procedure and it worked out much better. You start with an empty tank (drained mine earlier for weight & balance), tell Skyview total capacity, then add 2 gallons and tell Skyview you did. Then, repeat adding 2 gallons at a time and pushing a button until the tank is full. After calibration on the left tank, I drained all the fuel back into the gas cans so I’ll be ready to do the right side again.
