I did a bit of research and determined that the recommended edge distance for composite material is 2.5 times hole diameter. A #27 drill is .144—thus minimum edge distance would be .36”—so I made it .5”. I drilled the holes per the plans and attached the halves with clecoes. Then, I started the sand and fit on the other wheel pant—loads of fun! I finally got a decent fit—not great, but close enough. I will need to add a wee bit of micro to make a perfect fit, but nothing major. Next, I laid out the holes and drilled them to #40. I clecoed the halves together. Next up is to get the plane off of the gear and leveled so I can fit the pants to the plane.
