I’ve been gone for several days—no, not Oshkosh—not going back until I can fly this plane up there. Back in the shop and the heat—sanding around the cowl pin covers and nose bowl opening all the while swatting at these dang mud dobbers. I had covered the hinge pin covers with packing tape before applying micro to smooth the transition from cowl to cover. I sanded the joint between the two until the packing tape was gone leaving a flush edge around the cover. I have a couple of places that need a little more touch up, but overall they turned out pretty close. I also sanded the joint around the nose bowl where the upper and lower cowling fit together. This also needs another slurry of micro in a couple of spots. After sanding everything, I cleaned the areas and applied more packing tape. I will mix some micro early in the morning and get it applied before the heat strikes. Summer in the Dallas area is not the best season for fiberglass work.
