Time for the prop! This is the Hartzell constant speed prop that I bought as a prop/engine combo from Vans. Neighbors were both gone, so I got my engine hoist to assist. I used some tiedown straps to wrap around the prop blades near the hub. I hoisted the prop out of the box and set it on some blocks on my work bench. I had previously riveted the backing plates together and checked the fit on the prop hub—fit is good. There are 4 bolts to remove and re-used to bolt on the backing plate. The bolts look like a 9/16” wrench would work, but it felt slightly loose. I retrieved a 14mm socket and it fits snug—so I got out my calipers and measured the nut diameter. Sure enough, it’s metric. I need to get another 14mm socket in order to remove the nuts—so off to the big box store to find a socket. UPDATE--the bolts are NOT metric. The nuts are 3/8"--see next post.
