Brief Description:  Mark spinner and cut for blades

Before the cowling can be positioned, the spinner has to be mounted in order to get the spacing between spinner and cowling correct. The backplate has to be bolted to the prop, the prop installed and then the spinner attached. I started prepping the spinner which involves making the cut outs for the prop blades. I called Hartzell and they sent me a cut out template. I marked the spinner, then measured around the outside with a thin cloth tape measure. I divided this measurement in half, then measured from my original mark to find the center on the opposite side. I measured from each direction and made small adjustments until I felt good about the marks 180 degrees apart. I cut out the template and taped it to the spinner, then traced along the outside of the template to mark a blue line on the spinner—repeat for the opposite side. I used my dremel to make the first cut, followed with a rotary file to get it smooth. Then I switched to a 2” drum sander in my electric drill and worked down to the blue line. It still needs more sanding, but I’ll wait until it is mounted to the prop to get closer to the final shape.
