Brief Description:  Install nutplates, slot tank tab, flare fuel line

Today I had planned to finish installing all remaining nutplates—however I’m short a couple. Started with the left wing--made another dimple die for the hole next to the spar—opposite the one previously made. I drilled for the attachment holes, then used a screw backed up with the dimple die to form the dimple. Then I riveted in a MS21053-L08 single leg nutplate. I used my nutplate jig and drilled the attachment holes for the skin around the fuel tank. I lightly countersunk the holes, then squeezed in some NAS 1097 rivets to hole the K-1100 nutplates in place. I was going to finish up the nutplates on the right wing, but decided it was easier to squeeze them while in the cradle—I’ll get neighbor Al to help move the wing back to the cradle this evening.

Next up was to cut the “break away” slot in the T-405 tank tab. I drew some parallel lines extending from the existing bolt hole, then clamped a short piece of steel to the tab to act as a guide fence. I made one cut with a cutoff wheel in the dremel, reclamped the steel fence, then made the other cut. Then it was about 30 minutes of filing to get the slot where a bolt will slide out. Smoothed out the cut with some fine grit emery cloth.

Next, I replaced the rubber grommet for the left side where the fuel line passes thru the fuse. I was able to cut the old one out (it had split during wing install), and wrestled a new one in position. Then I cut the fuel line to a previously marked length (marked while wings were on). I added fittings and flared the line. I also added a grommet on each side of the fuse to pass wiring to the wings.
