Brief Description:  Install nutplates for wing root fairings-2

My goal today was to get the nutplate added to the spar web flange where the F-872APP and the F-872BPP (forward and aft fairings) overlap and are screwed to the nutplate under the flange. Well, this turned out to take much longer than I expected—2 hrs for the left wing, and 1 hr. for the right. The plans show to use a K-1100 nutplate—well, that just didn’t look like it would work—don't thnk the inboard lug of the nutplate would clear the rib.. I decided to use a single lug (MS-21051-L08) in this location. I made a drill guide to stabilize the #8 cutter, which I attached to the inside of the spar flange with a cleco—pushed a rivet in the second hole to keep things in line. Machine countersink the hole—might have been ok to do this without the guide, dunno. Anyhow, got a nice c/s with no chatter. I used a couple of Cherry c/s pop rivets to attach the nutplate—CCR-264SS-3-2. Then, I did a repeat of this procedure on the right wing. Next task was to dimple and install nutplates for the fwd root fairing, F-872APP. I had two holes than needed to be drilled up to #19, then deburred both the fairing and the wing skin. Grabbed the pneumatic squeezer and dimpled the fairing. Then, must have had a brain fade—kept on dimpling the wing skin---YIKES, I hadn’t drilled for the nut plate attachments using a drill jig. I contemplated flattening the dimples, drilling the #40 holes and then re-dimple. I finally decided to use a K-1100 nutplate as a guide and match drill thru the skin. I screwed the nutplate in place, clamped one lug with a side cleco and used my angle drill attachment to drill thru the nutplate lug into the skin. Put a cleco in this hole and drilled the other lug. Got them all done—just took a bit of extra time. There are still two holes next to the spar that I need to deal with tomorrow.
