Brief Description:  Wing Install-prep drill guides

Next up, I plan to mount the wings and perform the “drill the rear spar dance”. In preparation, I read all the blogs I could find as well as Van’s directions, then began assembling some of the stuff needed. I picked up a couple more plumb bobs and drill bits. Also got an undersized 9/16 reamer from Avery (actual size is .3115). I got some aluminum bar from ACS which I cut in half to make some drill guides. My plan (always subject to change) for drilling the rear spar is to start with a 1/8” bit and drill guide. Then move to #30, 3/16, ¼, 9/32, N and finally the undersized reamer. I did not make a drill guide for every size, mostly the initial hole and then the last several holes. I drilled the guides on the drill press with the bits I will use for the wings. Also made up some temp hardware grade bolts to mount the wing—tapered them on the scotchbrite wheel. I’ll have to also locate some sort of lazer to shoot down the leading edge of the wing.
